Q.  Where and When do I submit PODS?
A.  All pods should be submitted after each site visit in the PODS lock box (located outside of Vet Lab 118. See "Forms Tab" to retrieve the forms. PODS must be submitted within 30 days after completion or they will not be counted! Hours will then be verified with site, entered into your file and you will receive an "updated hours" email.
STUDENTS  MUST MAKE AND RETAIN COPIES OF ALL PODS FORMS FOR PERSONAL RECORD AND VERFICATION


Q. How long does it take for my PODS hours to be processed?
A.  All PODS sheets will be collected from the lock box every Sunday. Allow one week for "updated hours" email. If you do not recieve email within one week please check the front desk first and then contact The PODS Team.
* All forms without student email addresses are incomplete and will not be processed and will be places at the front desk.

Q. I have recieved an incomplete/ out of date/not in contract PODS email- What does this mean?
A. If you have recieved an
Incomplete PODS email: Your PODS sheet has not been filled out completly- Please pick up at front desk for specific instructions and return ASAP.
Out of Date PODS email: Your PODS hours can not be accepted because they were not submitted within 30 days of completion.
Not in contract PODS email: Your PODS location has not been an approved site. Please see About tab under the question "The site I would like to attend is not listed. How do I get my site approved?" 

Q.  What if I am unable to make my scheduled shift at the site?
A.   You are expected to be on time and willing to work to the best of your ability to fulfill your assigned PODS work.  Reliability and commitment to your work are two of the many attributes employers are looking for in RVT's.  If you are unable to fulfill your PODS commitments at any time, you are expected to be courteous and give at least 48 hours notice.
*Release from PODS hours for emergencies will be at the discretion of the Program Director.

Q. What happens if I receive a poor review on my PODS form from a site?
A. All forms are reviewed by the PODS Team. All Below average evaluations with be researched and reviewed on a case by case basis.

***Students who fail to show up or recieve poor evaulations for PODS hours, are subject to: meeting with PODS Team and program directors, rejection of hours and/or additional hours ***

Q.  What if I don’t complete my hours by the required time limits?
A.   If PODS are not completed within the mandatory time frame, since they are attached to your VET classes, You will receive a failing grade for that class and have to retake the course. The PODS are attached to your courses as a fail/pass component. Regardless of your percent/grade  in the course , if you do not complete your PODS, you do not pass the course. Do not wait until the last minute to complete these hours.

Q.  What should I wear when I attend my sites?
A.  All students should comply with the Stautzenberger student dress code unless otherwise stated by the particular site.  Student ID badges must be worn at all times.  

Q.  What happens if I get bitten or injured while at the site?
A.  All students are covered under Stautzenberger’s Insurance.  Please alert your supervisor as well as the Program Director ASAP and follow all injury protocols of the individual site.  If at any time you are uncomfortable working with an animal, or feel that you are in danger, please advise your Instructor or site supervisor immediately.  

Q. Can I perform my nonprofit hours at a large and small animal facility?
A. No,Non-Profit hours must be performed at a small animal facility. However, Large Animal hours can be performed at a nonprofit site.

Q. Can I complete my small animal PODS at a nonprofit small animal facility?
A. Yes, you can but only up to 1/2 the hours required. However you can not perform your nonprofit at a small animal clinic. We strongly suggest that you get as much exposure and different experiences from multiple sites.

Q.  Can I use foster care hours for my PODS?
A.  No, all hours need to be performed in a clinical setting with DVM/RVT supervision

Q. Can I complete my small animal PODS at a Doggy Daycare/Kennel or Grooming Facility? 
A. No, you must complete all small animal PODS in a clinical,laboratory or non-profit setting. (Please see specific rules on laboratory and nonprofit hours)

Q. Can I complete  small animal PODS within a laboratory setting?
A. Yes, you may complete up to half of your required hours for small animal PODS within a laboratory setting

Q.What is the difference between clinical PODS and non-profit PODS?
A. Clinical PODS are designed to be performed in you 8th quarter of school and are intended to give you more hands on now that you are further in your education.

Q. Do I have to perform my clinical PODS at the designated facilities?
A. Yes, these locations have been chosen as they can offer you the most experience as they are high volume clinics. They are also nonprofit so you can give back to the community as well.

Q.  Can PODS hours count for my internship?
A.  No, PODS are volunteer hours in which you work with the community observing and participating at your comfort level. Your internship (Vet 290) is a required class that will be completed only after you have successfully passed all of your course work.  You will receive a grade for your internship and will have itemized tasks and skills to perform.

Q. I am attending an orientation for my nonprofit site, do the training hours count towards my PODS?
A. Yes, you can use the orientation training hours towards your nonprofit PODS hours.

Q.  Can I complete PODS hours at my veterinary place of employment?
A.  Yes, but only 1/2 of the required amount of PODS can performed at your place of employment as long as we are in contract with the site. (Please see "About Tab" on how to obtain site approval) We strongly suggest that you get as much exposure and different experiences from multiple sites.

Q. My PODS are currently attached to a class that I am in however, I was unable to complete them. May I do them over break?
A. No, all PODS for that quarter must be completed before your grades are submitted (Finals Week) in order to pass the class.

Q. Can I work ahead and perform PODS hours over break?
A. Yes, as long as you are currently enrolled(including LOA) and are an active student.  (can not be Withdrawn from program)


Q. I am currently in VET 270 and performing my surgical observation hours, Can I use these hours towards clinical PODS?
A.  Yes, however you must have passed the course and must fill out a PODS sheet with date, location and site signature.

Q. I have had a personal issue,LOA (leave of absence), or extenuating circumstance and cannot complete my PODS, what do I do?
A. All students must comply with the PODS policy as well as all deadlines, if there is a extenuating circumstance this must to brought to the attention of Ms. Crable as well as Dean Alexander ASAP for any exceptions to be made.
